Women Shut Out

What's going on here? There has been so much media attention surrounding what appears to be an "issue" with the Canadian Women's Hockey Team scoring 36 goals after 3 games, with only 1 goal against (from Sweden). You've got to be kidding me. Angry emails to CBC and the like saying these outrageous scores are "unsportsmanlike" while hockey analysts who if you ask me aren't worthy of their job sit by and declare this a hindrance to the sport of women's hockey. Once again, are you effin kidding me?!
Suggestions have been made to have goals scored be capped at a random number like 5 or 6. And they don't think something like that would "hurt" the sport? Would anyone want to watch a game that would end in 20 minutes? Would players even want to bother getting all padded up for just 1 period of play?
People said it unsportsmanlike to score that many because the other teams aren't up to par with the Canadians... would you want to watch a game where players eased up? Where if a Cdn got a breakaway would skate half way and just stop? or avoid the net? THAT! would hurt hockey. That would be boring, that would frustrate people more than watching outstanding N. American teams clobber the Europeans.
Unsportsmanlike, would be if the women knowing how good they are, would take hot dog shots, like skating backwards and putting it through their leggs, or closing their eyes when they shoot, or anything else dumb like that. Sid Crosby did that once in his youth, playing against a team he was way up on decided to pick up the puck on the end of his stick and drop it in to the net, not shoot it but skated up to the net, put the stick in the net and drop the puck. That is not what hockey is and Don Cherry chewed him up for it.
Well I for one am Damn proud of the Canadian Women and their efforts on the ice. They went to Turin to play Hockey and they are playing like they have been since they were probably toddlers. If anything, it should demonstrate to the rest of the world that there's a level of equality and a social role played by Canadian women that welcomes them to sport and expects them to be good at what they do.
So Ladies, let's once again Win the Gold, not because the others can't play hockey, But Because
WE CAN!

No Fat Lady This Time....

"It's all over when the fat lady sings," is a comment that usually refers to the part in an opera when Mrs. Heavyset hops on stage and belts out a high pitch tune that's almost deafening to the ears and yet still enjoyable by many. Until, last friday, I was one of those "musical sure, Opera... No way Jose" kinda girls. Thanks to my two friends Dave and Genie I was introduced to a world of Opera that was for lack of a better word quite awesome! These two are vocal performance majors at the University of Western Ontario and were recently in the UWOpera production of Franz Lehar's The Merry Widow. It was awesome, Dave played a consul to the Baron of Pontevedra, and Genie played Zozo, the head Grisette (grisettes are a bunch of burlesque girls who work at Madame Maxim's). Anyhoo, this was considered an Operetta Im guessing because of its upbeatness. It was in English, and I was totally blown away by the voices here. This here is a picture of the Character Anna or The Merry Widow that all the men swoon over. I would love to tell you her name, but my playbill is at work, and I'm not.

In other news, I also got my theatre fix today (feb 14), when I went to see Einstein's Gift at the Grand Theatre. That was also good. Its about the interaction of science, technology, and politics, especially when it comes to war. The story is focused on the work of Fritz Haber a German Chemist. Haber is a nobel prize winner in chemistry and is also known as the Father of Chemical Warfare. H
is discoveries helped agriculture but also led to the development of toxic explosives used in WWI. His creation of Zyklon B was also used in concentration camps by the Nazi's during WWII. Haber however like the people who suffered in these camps was Jewish, and despite his work and contributions both to science and to Germany, he was exiled. Excellent play, I think my friend Dave was a little bored, but I enjoyed it. Go see it for yourself. It's called Einsteins gift I supposse because after Einstein took residence in the U.S. he asked FDR to take interest in the development of nuclear fission for military purposes out of fear that the Nazi's would first develop atomic bombs. Since its 2006 we know how it ends "Kaboom"! Yay. Science.

There are many discoveries made in good faith which are then turned and utilized for other purposes. Viagra for example was founded by accident. Like Bill Nye's saying "Science Rules", when does it stop? and how ethical is it to hold our technological advances over the rest of the world?

My Mind Unleashed

Lately, I have had alot of things on my mind. Nothing that is causing stress, but alot of thoughts that I would like to just spill out so as to make room for more thoughts. So, I thought I would jump on the blogging bandwagon and here I am.

This blog will be predominantly dedicated towards my rant and raves about life, but will also include accounts of things I experience that I feel I should share with you.

Since this is just me on a rambling role, please don't expect proper grammar, and I'm too lazy to spell check. So if my writing is annoying TOO BAD :P

Feel free to add your comments to mine, Im always curious to hear what you think. But, be nice, and don't try and change my mind, because once I've decided its a done deal.

I put alot of my pictures at
http://spaces.msn.com/natasphere, which are only privyed to those on my msn list. I also have a site at www.myspace.com/natasphere which is more of in depth look at me. My friend Ben made me do it, so there it is!

Other than that, and like I say for both of those, these are my thoughts and Welcome to the Natasphere.
